Welcome to another day in the life at RFPS wildlife rescue, where every moment brings new challenges and every life matters. Yesterday, April 17th, was one of those intense 24-hour periods that perfectly captures what wildlife rescue work is really like – from emergency calls to midnight feedings. Let me take you behind the scenes of our wildlife rehabilitation center, where sometimes the work hits hard, but every story deserves to be told.
? Emergency Waterfowl Response
Let’s talk about our feathered friends first – and this is important, folks! We had a duck come in after being hit by a car. ? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE – when you see waterfowl trying to cross the street, stop and let them pass! These beautiful creatures don’t understand traffic laws (trust me, I’ve tried explaining – they’re terrible students ?). A few minutes of your time could save a life. Sadly, despite our best efforts, this little one didn’t make it through the night. Every loss hits hard, but it fuels our mission to educate and prevent these accidents.
? Unexpected Bat Rescue
But wait – the wildlife chaos was just getting started! Enter our surprise guest: a brown bat found chillin’ on the ground like it was some kind of bat beach day. ? Pro tip: bats don’t typically sunbathe – if you see one on the ground, something’s usually wrong. This little guy was likely dehydrated, which is a common issue we see. Remember, these flying mosquito-munchers are our friends, even if they look like they raided Batman’s wardrobe!
? Tale of Two Opossums
Then, in what felt like nature’s version of a plot twist, we got two young opossums from different parts of the same yard. Life’s funny like that sometimes – these little marsupial neighbors probably never knew they lived so close to each other. Sadly, one of these precious babies didn’t make it through the night. But its sibling is fighting strong, reminding us that even in the tough moments, there’s hope.
? Midnight Raccoon Care
And because sleep is apparently overrated (who needs it, right? ?), the night brought us 4 tiny orphaned raccoons! Nothing says “good night’s sleep” like getting up for bottle feedings throughout the night. These little masked bandits are doing great, though, and let me tell you – there’s nothing quite like those middle-of-the-night feeding sessions when it’s just you and these tiny lives depending on you.
Just another day (and night) at RFPS, folks! Every day brings new challenges, new stories, and new opportunities to make a difference. Whether we’re saving lives or providing comfort in final moments, this is what we do. This is who we are.
Remember: if you see wildlife in distress, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here 24/7 because these critters don’t exactly keep office hours!
? How You Can Help
And hey, if you want to help support our around-the-clock rescue efforts, every donation helps keep our lights on and our rescue supplies stocked. These little lives depend on all of us! ?
