April 29 carries meaning far beyond our wildlife-rescue mission. It has marked turning points throughout history, and therefore it continues to inspire reflection every year. Each season, we share rescue stories and sanctuary milestones that show compassion in action. At the same time, we remember how this single date connects personal purpose with world events.
As we look back over a decade of sanctuary work and Facebook updates, we realize how much can change in one day. However, we also recognize how much can endure through shared commitment and hope. Because of this balance, April 29 reminds us that progress depends on both courage and care.
April 29 has witnessed defining moments such as the liberation of Dachau in 1945, the LA riots in 1992, royal weddings, and an emperor’s abdication. Consequently, we see this date as a mirror of resilience, transformation, and compassion.
April 29 shaped nations and touched countless lives around the world. Understanding this date helps us see how personal missions connect to the larger human story.
1945: American forces liberated Dachau concentration camp. As a result, the world witnessed one of history’s most profound moments of justice and humanity.
1992: The Los Angeles riots erupted after the Rodney King verdict. Consequently, the event sparked deep reflection on civil rights that continues today.
2011: Prince William and Catherine Middleton’s royal wedding brought joy to millions. Meanwhile, it reminded people everywhere that love and unity can brighten even turbulent times.
2019: Emperor Akihito of Japan abdicated the throne, beginning the Reiwa era. Although centuries separated this from earlier abdications, the act symbolized renewal and continuity.
Each event shows how April 29’s significance crosses borders and generations. Therefore, history proves that lasting change often arises from both great movements and quiet compassion.

From baby squirrels and injured owls to new facilities and quiet wins, our April 29 rescues hold deep meaning. These moments rarely make headlines. Nevertheless, they shape our mission and reveal what real transformation looks like.

The day’s importance is not measured only by global events. Instead, it is also found in individual lives saved through care, dedication, and hope. Because of this, we celebrate every small success as part of the same human story.

For us, April 29 serves as a reminder of what compassion can achieve. Whether freeing people from camps or helping wildlife in need, the common thread is courage and kindness. Furthermore, each rescue reflects the same strength seen in the great moments of history.
In conclusion, April 29’s importance goes beyond scale or fame. Every life matters. Every act of care counts.

Such a busy day today I dont know what picture or video to share. So I guess Ill pick this one because the geese were fun today. First we got a call about a mallard duck down in the same spot for a couple days. Get there and it did have an injured leg but could swim and fly just fine. So he was left alone. Then when I left I get a call about a goose on a nest that was hit by a car with an injured leg. I get there and one of her eggs had rolled out into the parking lot and the whole gaggle of 8 or so were guarding it and attacking anyone that got close. Of course I must have some type of goose shield or something because I just walked right up and put it back in the nest. They all calmed down after that and she was not injured. So although not the best spot for a nest she would abandon it if it was moved so thats her spot for now and she has bodyguards. Lol then leaving there get a call about a baby down on the ground but I just glanced at it while driving and thought it was a raptor. Once I saw it in person though it was just a tiny sparrow most likely. So I grabbed that and then got a call from Louisville metro about a pigeon that landed on their building. By the time I got there one of there awesome employees had caught it for me. So then I took my little baby out to Broadbent wildlife sanctuary and then got another call about babies on the ground. So dropped off the baby and it was closing time but they agreed to wait for me to get back. So off again but unfortunately 4 of the babies died in the fall but one did survive. It couldnt have been much more than a day or two old. I couldnt tell what it was but I took it out to Broadbent then and also got to see our goose we caught the other day. She survived her surgery but did end up losing her wing. She looked like she was in very good shape tho. So thats the crazy day today. It was a super busy day but it was a great day also. Its always a good day when you get to play with plenty of feathered friends. Have a wonderful evening everyone. – Brad

Kiki can fly! He is building up his muscles again and after living in a parakeet cage it has to feel good. The vet said he may never fly again and I'm so proud of him. I'm so lucky he came into my life. As I sit here writing this Kiki is here. He is stroking my arm with his hand like I stroke them, like you pet a dog or cat, or like caressing a loved one. Several of my birds do this and it always makes me feel like I am connecting on a much deeper way with them then maybe I realize. Their emotions and feelings go much deeper than a lot of people can imagine. Have a great evening everyone. – Brad
