Hi there! We’re Brad & Tara, the real-life bird wranglers, wildlife triage team, and coffee-fueled chaos coordinators behind Ruffled Feathers Parrot Sanctuary Inc., based in Louisville, Kentucky. Since 2015, we’ve been taking in the loud, the plucked, the bitten, the abandoned, and the misunderstood yes, we mean parrots (though that description fits a few people we’ve met too).
What started as an act of compassion has turned into a full-blown mission: giving parrots and wildlife a second chance sometimes their last chance at healing, safety, and love.
1. Parrot Sanctuary: We specialize in the tough cases; birds that bite, scream, or just need a place to feel safe again. Some stay forever. Some find new homes. All are loved.
2. Wildlife Rehab & Rescue: Brad is a licensed wildlife rehabber handling up to 5,000 animals a year from fox kits to baby deer, hawks to possums. If it crawls, flies, or panics in traffic, odds are it’s spent the night in our care.
3. Emergency Transport & Triage: Injured owl on a roadside? Baby squirrel in your attic? We’ve got the nets, the gear, and the stubbornness to get them safe. Then we partner with facilities like Broadbent Wildlife Sanctuary to get them long-term care.
We’re not your average animal rescue.
We don’t sanitize the stories—we show the real, the raw, and the redeemable.
You’ll find us posting wild-ride rescues, hilarious bird tantrums, emotional reunions, and behind-the-scenes moments that don’t always smell like roses (especially not after feeding time).
Parrots can live 50+ years, but too many are abandoned within a few. Wildlife faces daily dangers from humans, and few cities have responders equipped to help. That’s why we stepped in and stayed in. Because someone had to.

If it’s an emergency in the Louisville, KY area, texting is always fastest (I usually have the phone and don’t hear well). We sleep with the phone by the pillow. (Keep in mind we do try to sleep though.)
Ruffled Feathers is more than a sanctuary — it’s a lifeline, a community, and a second-chance machine.
Whether it’s a traumatized cockatoo or a deer stuck in a storm drain, we show up because we believe every life matters.
