Great Blue Heron Rescue With Dignity

Great blue heron rescue stories do not always end the way we hope. When this great blue heron came to us, his legs no longer worked and there was no fixing that. Sometimes the kindest thing we can do is make sure an animal’s last day is a good one.

Injured Blue Heron Care When Healing Is Not Possible

So that’s what we did. He got good food, soft music playing in the background, and a quiet, safe place to finally rest without fear. The next morning we said goodbye and let him go humanely and peacefully. Not every rescue ends the way we want it to, but every animal that comes through our doors gets dignity, comfort, and love. This beautiful heron was no exception.

Helpful Wildlife Resources

If you find an injured great blue heron or any wild animal, please do not try to keep it or treat it at home. Contact a permitted wildlife rehabilitator or your local wildlife agency for guidance. You can also learn more about great blue herons through Cornell Lab of Ornithology or Audubon’s field guide.
