We transport birds. A lot of birds.
In our experience with thousands of rescued parrots and wildlife cases, carriers make or break the stress level of a move. Whether it is an intake, vet visit, emergency transfer, or foster placement, the wrong carrier turns a simple trip into chaos.
The Petmate Two Door Top Load Kennel is one of the few hard sided carriers we consistently trust for smaller parrots, small mammals, and wildlife patients.
Top Loading Access
The top door is the game changer. When you are moving a nervous conure, cockatiel, budgie, or small mammal, lifting from above is often safer and calmer than trying to push them through a front door. Less chasing. Less wing flapping. Less panic.
Front Door Option
You still get a traditional front door for animals who load willingly or for quick access during checks.
Ventilation
Plenty of airflow on all sides. That matters, especially in warmer months. We never compromise on ventilation.
Hard Sided Security
Soft carriers collapse. Birds chew. Wildlife panics. This one holds up.
We use carriers like this during quarantine intake, vet transports, and wildlife transfers. It is not a permanent housing solution. No carrier is. But for safe, short term transport, this design works.
A quick reality check from the sanctuary side:
- Always secure doors with an additional clip or carabiner
- Never leave a bird unattended in a vehicle
- Line the bottom with a towel for traction
- For parrots, remove perches during transport to prevent injury
If you transport birds even occasionally, having a solid carrier on hand is not optional. Emergencies do not wait for shipping.
This one earns the rehabber approved stamp from us.
