? Story Begins…
So I get a call from a local laundromat and no, not because a raccoon stole someones socks (although, give it time). This time, they had a guest.
A sparkling white pigeon showed up the night before and decided the laundromat wasnt a laundromat at all no, it was clearly a nightclub. He strutted around under the parking lot lights like he owned the place, cooing along to the hum of the vending machines, living it up all night long.
Come morning, the staff shows up for their shift… and guess whos still there? Yep. Our little clubber. As soon as those doors opened, he just waltzed inside like he had a 7 a.m. brunch reservation and bottle service. Naturally, they pampered him with bird seed and water. I mean, who wouldnt?
Then they called me which meant I had to play bouncer.
He gave me a look like, Listen, I am the vibe, but I had to break the news: You dont have to go home, but you cant stay here, bud.
And heres where it gets funnier. This wasnt some anonymous alley pigeon. He was fully banded name, number, and everything. Basically had a resume on his ankle. But of course, I called. I texted. I waited. And, shocker… no response.
I dont know why people go through the trouble of banding a bird with GPS-level detail and then ghost the moment that bird actually needs them. Hes gorgeous. Hes healthy. And now? Hes ours. Because he may be unwanted at home, but hes very wanted here.
?? Meanwhile, in Squirrel Land…
That same day, we also took in two orphaned baby squirrels who were just about old enough to be on their own. Another week learning how to squirrel with a little mentorship from their fuzzy peers and theyll be off like a shot. Fast little chaos beans, the both of them.
? Some Come From Clubs, Some Come From Trees
Not everyone ends up in rescue the same way. Some wander in looking for a party. Some fall out of a nest. Some are released from people who once cared and just stopped.
But whether they come in feathered, furred, or a little too full of themselves, we make sure theyre safe, seen, and given a second chance.
Because even party pigeons deserve a soft landing.
